can i claim 1000$ in taxes withheld from 2011 tax return for a past return i made an error on?
i had about 1000$ with held from my 2011 return do to an error n my 2008 return. can i claim that on my 2012 return? I also had about 1000$ with held for a student loan from 2006. Can that be entered on my 2012 tax return? If so about how much would it save me on federal tax? Thanks for any help.

No NO No and No way and time would it ever be possible to have a deduction on your federal 1040 income tax return for any payment of past due legally collectible government debts that have been paid through the FMS REFUND offset program for this purpose and time in your life.

No. You got the money, it was just used to pay your debt. There’s nothing to "claim."

if your 2008 return was wrong, you have until 4/15/2012 to amend it
and no your offset to repay your defaulted student loan is not a deduction
